"Master your mind. Master your destiny."
Rosa Marie is the president of Marvelous Mind Academy and a mom of two amazing, bright bouncy boys. Rosa is a professional problem solver, and she gets shit done for parents.
Marvelous Mind Academy is an educational cooperative for exploratory learning. They also offer pop up daycare for organizations who want to get more parent voices to the table.
The newest addition is the B4 Cowork space that allows parents to increase productivity and reduce drivetime between work and childcare.

How to Keep Business Going When Your Life is Falling Apart with Asa Shutts
Sunday Jul 17, 2022
Sunday Jul 17, 2022
Episode 3 Do you find yourself overwhelmed and stressed from working all the time and not having any time for yourself? Then this episode is for you! As a female business owner, Asa Shutts has to juggle a lot of balls - and when personal tragedy hits, she has to get creative to keep her business afloat.
In this episode, you will learn:
1. How Asa's business has adapted in response to COVID-19
2. What it is like to produce a virtual event
3. How to manage time and handle stress as a business owner
Asa Shutts is a professional photographer and videographer who owns and operates Shuts Productions and Shutter and Splice. She has over 20 years of experience in the industry and has worked with a variety of clients, from weddings and newborns to corporate events and nonprofits.
"We just do!" - Asa Shutts
There are a lot of unexpected things happening in the personal life of the owner of a photography business. She has to deal with it all at the same time as running her own business. Her son was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder. Her dad died in April and her other son had a car accident and broke his neck. After her father died, Asa had three weddings to shoot in one weekend. One of the dads in the wedding party reminded her of her own dad.
As a child, she spent hours in her grandfather's basement looking through old black and white photos. When she went to college, she studied sculpture. And 20 years later, she met her husband, and they started doing video projects together. They started their business ten years ago and she added photo back into it.
She recounts a story of a recent wedding they shot, which took place on a horse ranch in Wyoming. Despite the challenges posed by COVID-19, they were able to turn the event into a family vacation and produce stunning photos and videos of the event.
If you want to start a business as a photographer or videographer, you have to be tenacious, willing to work two jobs and be hungry and know what you're doing. The market is over saturated with photographers in every genre. The thing that's kept Asa Shutts in business is the fact that she can do photo, video, corporate and personal. She doesn't touch boudoir, unless you are a very dear friend who has mastered a few key poses.

ABOUT THE GUEST
My name is Erika Sorbello and I’m the proud owner, stylist & curator of Gallery Salon. I grew up in a small town in central NY and moved to Rochester in 1997 to pursue an art degree at Nazareth College. After only 2 years, I enrolled in Continental School of Beauty and graduated in 2000. I felt so lucky to have found such a perfect career path for me at such a young age.
After 5 years in the industry, I opened Gallery in 2005 at our original location on University Ave. In 2014 we relocated and expanded to our current home at Elton Street. As an owner working behind the chair, I strive to keep up to date and coach and drive my team to do the same.
We showcase and host an array of local artists, makers and their brands. Gallery Salon always has something new and handmade for you to purchase. I am very proud to say that Gallery Salon offers Gender Neutral Pricing and we are an official Safe Zone!
During my downtime, I’m generally with my greatest achievement, my daughter Viola, or my incredible other half - Nate, or with my friends and family enjoying everything Rochester has to offer. I'm honored to say, Gallery Salon welcomes all, creates beauty and urges uniqueness!
Life has shaped me, molded me, changed me and inspired me into who I am today.
